Gemma Tattersall makes history to win Leg 1
Leg 1 of the Event Rider Masters (ERM) made a historic start to its 2017 series today, at the Dodson & Horrell Chatsworth International Horse Trials. Britain’s Gemma Tattersall became the first female rider to win a leg of the £400,000 Eventing series, riding the lovely mare Quicklook V.
Following a clear showjumping round, Tattersall set out on the Chatsworth cross-country in pole position. They were faultless on the cross country and completed with 3.2 time penalties. Their finishing score of 36.9 also secured the combination a record Chatsworth CIC*** finishing score and a personal best at this level as well as the £16,000 first prize.
Gemma commented;
“Pebbles (Quicklook V) was absolutely foot perfect in all three phases. I am so proud of her. My main aim this year is to win the Event Rider Masters series and I have set out to do just that. I have some top classes horses to aim at the series and can’t wait for Leg 2!”
Germany’s Bettina Hoy who added just a time penalty to a clear showjumping round maintained her second place after show jumping, picking up 1.2 time penalties to finish on as score of 40.6. The overnight leaders Thomas Carlile and Upsilon, who had a disappointing showjumping after a refusal, finished in third. The pair came out all guns blazing on the cross country, jumping an impressive clear inside the time to complete on a score of 42.2.
