Michael Jung takes the lead after showjumping at Leg 4
Michael Jung (GER) riding Star Connection currently leads Leg 4 of the Event Rider Masters following the showjumping phase at Haras De Jardy, France. The current world number 1 will start out on this afternoon’s cross country with just 1.1 marks in hand over Lt Col Thibaut Vallette (FRA) and Qing Du Briot ENE HN.
With the time proving very difficult for riders to achieve, the showjumping was hugely influential. Only three horse and rider combinations jumped clear and inside the time, which dramatically changed the overnight leaderboard.
Jung jumped an clear round inside the time, remaining on his dressage score of 35.7. Vallette added two time faults for a combined showjumping and dressage score of 36.8. Gemma Tattersall (GBR) riding Chico Bella P sits in third on a score of 38.3 after jumping clear, but also incurred two time penalties.
The overnight dressage leader Bettina Hoy riding Seigneur Medicott (31.4), dropped to seventh place after knocking down a rail and adding five time penalties. Bettina starts out on cross country with a combined dressage and showjumping score of 40.4.
Cross country coverage starts at 1.15pm (CET). And, with the cross country and optimum time at Jardy being renowned as very challenging to achieve, the competition is certainly wide open.
