Montgomery leads the way
Dressage day at Leg 2 of the Event Rider Masters series saw a thrilling competition unfold with six different nations filling the top six spots at the end of day one. USA’s Clark Montgomery on his own, Kathryn Kraft and Holly & William Becker’s Loughan Glen top the leader board with a score of 36.5, despite a minor sat-nav error during their test. In second place and the only other combination to break the 40 barrier, with a score of 39, was Bill Levett (AUS) riding his own and Clare, Anne & Mike Prentice’s Shannondale Titan. Sitting just 0.2 penalties behind is China’s Alex Hua Tian riding Don Geniro. The French continue to show they mean business in the Event Rider Masters series and have Maximo Livio and Pica D’Or filling fourth spot on a score of 40.8. Next comes the New Zealand legend and double Olympic Gold medallist, Sir Mark Todd riding NZB Campino on a score if 42.2 and completing the top six and in equal place are the best of the Brits, Pippa Funnell riding Carol Toliver’s Mirage D’Elle and Nicola Wilson riding the Tweddle’s Annie Clover who both sit on a score of 42.3. The winner of Leg 1 and current ERM series leader Astier Nicolas sits in 12th place on Molakai and with just two fences separating the top fourteen places, there will be all to play for in tomorrow’s jumping phases.
